Bring along your broken item and an experienced volunteer repairer will help you fix it – or at least have a good try! We can tackle a wide variety of repairs including kitchenware, mechanical items, toys, clothes, textiles, jewellery and other items. We are not repairing any electricals, electronics or bikes at this repair cafe.

Repairers will discuss the repair with you and you'll work together to fix it, if possible - and you are encouraged to pass on what you learn to others as well! As with all repair cafes, the repairers are brilliant and can fix a lot of things, but there are no guarantees.

The museum team will also be running two free repair-themed tours of the museum, at 12pm and 1pm, where you can find out about everything from Captain Scott's men sewing in Antarctica to modern conservation work on a parka made from seal intestine. Repair cafe attendees will have the chance to sign up for a tour on the day.

It’s a free event but donations to the Polar Museum and to Cambridge Carbon Footprint are welcome. Tea, coffee, water and biscuits will be available free of charge. There are also cafes and restaurants nearby on Regent Street.

The central Cambridge bus station and railway station are within 20 minutes' walk. Cycle parking is available. One accessible space in the Institute staff car park is available to blue badge holders on advance request. There is also Pay and Display street parking outside the museum, which is free to blue badge holders.
